Professional Development Plan 2020-2021

Core Competency addressed: Personal & Ethical Foundations 

PD GOAL 1: Commit to bettering my personal growth

  • Work on prioritizing my responsibilities within my personal and professional life by utilizing a planner and to-do lists

  • Dedicate a journal to weekly reflections to help myself learn and grow from each week

  • Develop a list of my strengths and weaknesses then come up with ways to improve on my strengths and weaknesses

 

Core Competency addressed: Values, Philosophy, and History

PD GOAL 2: Learn more about the history of higher education

  • Make a list of all my values and focus on one value each week

  • Complete American Higher Education class during Spring 2021 to help learn more about the history of higher education

  • Read one new article every month about the history of higher education or different philosophies around higher education

 

Core Competency addressed: Leadership

PD GOAL 3: Expand leadership skills

  • Watch two-three Ted Talk or YouTube videos a month about leadership

  • Create a leadership presentation that is universal and can be used at any institution and any position I hold

  • Set up monthly meetings with my supervisor at my assistantship to discuss how I am progressing – what I am doing well and what needs to be improved on

 

Core Competency addressed: Social Justice and Inclusion                      

PD GOAL 4: Increase social awareness and overall knowledge

  • Read one article a month that relates to social justice and inclusion

  • Plan at least one event my assistantship can do in Spring 2021 that revolves around social justice and inclusion

  • Research ideas to promote social justice and inclusion and present them to the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) committee at my assistantship in Spring 2021

 

Core Competency addressed: Technology

PD GOAL 5: Become more tech-savvy

  • Join a new Student Affairs Facebook group in 2021

  • Create a LinkedIn account and learn how to navigate the platform

  • Over winter break (2020-2021) develop a marketing plan to engage student involvement
